I am a 34 year old British runner who lives in London and is continually seeking the next adventure. For the past 11 years I have worked at Instinctif Partners, a top 5 London PR consultancy, working with clients such as ASOS, graze.com, AO World plc and SuperGroup.
I grew up near Haddington in East Lothian and at seven went to Belhaven Hill, the local prep school. While dawdling at the rear of one of our Monday morning runs I received a literal kick up the backside from my house master, Mr Conran-Smith, who jokingly threatened detention if I did not win… It was then I discovered not only I could run but I enjoyed it.
It wasn’t until after attending Loretto in Musselburgh and Oxford Brookes that I returned to running with any sort of serious intentions. In 2004 I competed in the Stockholm Marathon, in 2006 the Paris Marathon and in 2010 I completed the LEWA Safaricom marathon in Kenya. In 2011 I competed at the Ironman 70.3 in Wimbleball and in 2012 the Dorney Lake SPEEDO 10km openwater swim.
In 2013 I entered the Vietnam Jungle Marathon, a 240km extreme ultramarathon. Following months of training and preparation, I was devastated when the event was cancelled a month prior to the start date. After a couple of days of disappointment I decided to fly to Vietnam anyway and undertake a 240km route completely solo and without a support crew. You can find the full blog and video here.
